In the last two days, the leaders and activists of Chhatra League attacked the Chhatra Dal in the Dhaka University area. Chhatra League has been claiming from the beginning that this attack was a resistance of ordinary students.
But CCTV footage, videos and stills speak differently. It was seen that the leaders and activists of Chhatra League had a strict position in every spot of the attack. A firearm was found in the hand of a person involved in the politics of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League. Another took out a weapon from his waist and aimed it at the student procession. His still image has been published in the newspaper.
Besides, leaders and activists of different halls of Dhaka University as well as leaders of Central and University Chhatra League were at the forefront of the attack. They were accompanied by many leaders and activists of Dhaka Metropolitan South and Dhaka College. Along with the motorcycle fleet of Dhaka College, many have been seen taking up positions with indigenous weapons. They took up armed positions, sharing different points before the attacks on Tuesday and Thursday.
However, Chhatra League is reluctant to call it the position of its leaders and workers. They are saying, a student first a student, then a student league. Fifty leaders and activists of the Chhatra Dal were injured in the attack on Thursday, the Chhatra Dal said. The condition of three of them is critical. They are Tanvir Azadi, vice-president of Chhatra Dal's Ekattar Hall, Ijabullah Mallik, former class secretary of Dhaka College and Shahabuddin Shihab of Dhaka Metropolitan North.
They were beaten with bamboo, sticks, rods and iron pipes. While taking pictures of this attack, some journalists were also attacked by the leaders and activists of Chhatra League. A journalist's mobile phone was snatched. Videos and stills of these incidents have gone viral on social media.
Analysis of CCTV footage, video and stills shows that two student activists were beaten with rods, stamps and sticks inside the High Court shrine gate. Among them, Ijabullah Mallik, former class secretary of Dhaka College Chhatra Dal, was beaten and some of them have been identified. Central Chhatra League vice-president Tilottama Sikadar took part in the attack wearing a green salwar-kameez and a blue helmet.
Chhatra League activist Mahmud Chowdhury Shant, wearing a light blue full-sleeved shirt, took part in the attack. He beat the student leader with an iron pipe in his hand. Salimullah Muslim wearing red helmet and glasses is a BCL activist. Nazim Uddin Simon and Syed Imam Bak, former president of CUET Chhatra League and library secretary of Central Chhatra League wearing spectacles, kept looking for Chhatra Dal workers hiding around.
When Ijabullah fainted at one stage of the attack, some people including Rakib Hossain, the vice-president of the central student league, who were present at the scene, arranged to send him to the hospital in a rickshaw. Dhaka University wearing a helmet. Sharif Ahmed Munim, general secretary of Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, was also seen holding an iron pipe.
Also present during the attack were Alamin Rahman, private university affairs secretary of the central BCL and Rashed Ferdous Akash, central joint secretary of the BCL. Organizing Secretary Nazim Uddin, President of Shamsunnahar Hall Khadija Akhter Urmi, Top Candidate of Dhaka College Chhatra League and Central Deputy Editor Samad Azad Zulfiqar, Joint Editor Amanullah Aman Sagar, Environmental Secretary Shamim Parvez also took part in the attack.
Also present were Deputy Secretary Nazir, Deputy Entertainment Secretary Shahin Talukder, Deputy Secretary KM Russell, Deputy Secretary Khan Mohammad Shimul, Program and Planning Secretary Saddam Hussein, Activist Abhijyan Das Antu, Amar Ekushey Hall President Enayet H Manon and General Secretary Imdadul Hasan Sohag, Vice President. Rakib Hossain, former Deputy Secretary of Vijay Ekattar Hall Mujibul Bashar, Salimullah Muslim Hall BCL activist. Nazim Uddin Simon. Some of them including Rakib and Mujibul Bashar attacked at first but later rescued the students and helped them to get first aid.
When asked, BCL president Al-Nahyan Khan told Joy Jugantar that ordinary students have stopped trying to create a volatile environment on campus. Chhatra League was with the general students expressing their support. Most of those who are called Chhatra League there are ordinary students. Even if someone has a position, it is not a big identity. Their real identity is that they are university students. The students resisted the terrorists. It will also resist their terrorist activities in the coming days.
On Tuesday, the Chhatra Dal was attacked by the Chhatra League in the central Shahid Minar area. More than 50 Chhatra Dal workers were injured on that day. The group called for a nationwide protest on Thursday in protest of the attack. Chhatra League also attacked that program. At that time they had rods, stamps, sticks, iron pipes, hooksticks, bamboo etc. in their hands. Chhatra League leaders and activists entered the High Court premises but attacked Chhatra Dal leaders and activists.
Meanwhile, if the university administration will take any action against the attackers - Dhaka University Proctor Professor. AKM Golam Rabbani told Jugantar that for the first time on Thursday, there was no disturbance in the school premises. But the tension was just right. Details of the attack on the university on Tuesday have been handed over to law enforcement. Hopefully they will take action soon.
