
A court has granted remand to former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in the case of the murder of garment worker Minarul in a shooting incident during a student-public movement against discrimination.
The investigation officer of the case filed a seven-day remand application in the court of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Nur Mohsin on Sunday afternoon. After the hearing, the court granted a two-day remand. Ivy participated in the hearing virtually from Kashimpur Jail. Supreme Court lawyer SM Siddiqur Rahman, senior lawyer of Narayanganj Bar Mahbubur Rahman, Awlad Hossain, Zahidul Haque, Ziaul Islam, Pradeep Ghosh, Bilkis Begum, Shahin Mahmud, Jasim Uddin, Ruhul Amin, Abu Ishtiaq and 25 to 30 lawyers participated in the hearing on behalf of Ivy.
On the other hand, acting public prosecutor (PP) of the District and Sessions Judge's Court Fazlur Rahman was on behalf of the government.
Ivy's lawyer SM Siddiqur Rahman told the court that Ivy had no involvement in the incident. She herself was not present anywhere in the movement. She is a popular mayor, has worked for people regardless of party or opinion. The investigation officer has sought remand in this case to harass her.
In the remand hearing, public prosecutor Fazlur Rahman told the court that Ivy is a member of Sheikh Hasina's boat. The students and the public were attacked at his instigation.
On the morning of May 9, the police arrested Ivy from her house in Deobhog in the city and took her to the DB office. Later, she was arrested in the murder case of garment worker Minarul on July 20 last year and presented to the court. The court ordered Ivy to be sent to prison. There are six cases against Ivy, including murder. Out of these, she was arrested in four cases.
On the evening of July 20 last year, garment worker Minarul Islam was shot in the Adamji area during the student and public movement against discrimination. When he was taken to Narayanganj Hospital, the doctors declared him dead. In this incident, on September 23, Minarul's brother Nazmul Haque filed a murder case with Siddhirganj Police Station, naming 132 people including Awami League General Secretary and former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former MP Shamim Osman, former Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and accusing 300 unknown people.
